UW Graduate Visit Days (March 18-19, 2003)

<< Back to March Home

Steve and me in a Sieg Hall undergrad computer lab.
Walking out to dinner at the Faculty Club. I think this is the main library. It's pretty big, as are most UW buildings.
More walking and snapping pics... The courtyard in the middle of the faculty club. Reminds me of SFI.
The faculty club has a really nice view of the lake. People schmoozing.

Some people get all shy when there's a camera pointing at them.
Unlimited bowling at the Student Union. We secured two lanes, but Steve kept holding us up. So he goes for some double-fisted action... He might have a future as a professional lefty bowler.
I forget if he manages to finish off with the spare. Random hotel room pics.
The best part of the hotel was the free wireless access. I like Seattle.
Next day, we had our tour of the new CSE building. Mug of Steve after his tour finished. Mmm, construction.
The atrium sure is spacious.
They did the upper floors first, so that construction equipment can end up on the bottom.
Former chair of the department Ed Lazowska describes the construction.   Funny how the pic on the right is so much better than the one on the left.
A pic of the view from what will be a lab or office.
More walking around the lower levels.
Notice how an upper floor looks a lot more finished. Future office. Some furniture choices.
Close-up reveals that these will be Graduate Student Offices. Here's a sample of the wood (solid) for the furniture material.   So there's still some random construction equipment around...
"CAUTION: Non-Explosion Proof Motors"
The white things are the founding UW pillars or something like that.
Further on up...
Killer view...
More of the view.
Even more of the view.
So is that what elevators are made of (wood panels)? Steve's friend Garmay took a shot of me with my cool, backwards hardhat. This was the last shot that my camera could hold.
